This speaker needs to be repaired.A friend recently loaned me this speaker. He told me it originally came from a Mesa Boogie .22 Caliber amplifier. He replaced it with a different speaker and eventually sold the amp but kept the original speaker. This speaker was in his closet for a decade or so before I borrowed it. I installed it in a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe amplifier and it sounded very good, bright and clear. I liked the way it sounded for both clean and over-driven tones. So after testing the speaker around the house for several days, I took the amplifier to a jam session. In fact, the owner of the speaker was there too! These guys were playing pretty loud and I had my amplifier turned up about halfway and after about 15 minutes of playing suddenly I had no sound. Long story short, the speaker sort of stopped working. You could barely hear some sound if no one else was playing. I can’t see any rips in the cone, maybe the voice coil is damaged. I tried it later with a different amplifier and it had the same problem.I called Mesa and they told me this speaker was made by Eminence and that they stopped selling these about 25 years ago. I called Eminence and they told me that they built the speaker to Mesa’s specs and that none of their currents speakers sound like this. It’s an 8-ohm speaker and designed to take up to 50 watts.I tried to pay my friend for the speaker but he refused to take any money, so I going to sell it and will give him whatever I receive. This would be a good project if you know how to repair speakers. I am selling it “as is.”
